Taking The Week Off

October 29, 2014

walk from mustang towers

We are spending the week on Mustang Island, on the Texas Gulf Coast.

It’s a welcome break for us after the activity of finding and moving into a new RV.  Sunrise here is a treat every morning.

There’s something majestic about watching a flock of pelicans fly over, sometimes sweeping back around to play in the updraft from the building we’re staying in.

Here on the Texas coast, the dunes provide a special blend of sea oats and cactus.

IMG_3625The Texas Gulf Coast is an important stop along the pathway of migratory birds, and the Aransas Pass area provides many sanctuaries set aside for them to provide food and shelter.

IMG_3357This is one of Nell’s favorite places.  We could both easily become beach bums.

IMG_3736I’m painting en plein air for the first time in quite a while.  Standing on the beach, listening to the birds and the surf while trying to make a painting look like something is a nice way to spend a few hours.

IMG_3720Roberts Park, near the Port Aransas ferry landing, is a great place to watch huge ships move through the channel on the way to the Port of Corpus Christi or to the shipyards at Ingleside.

We’re enjoying spending time with family taking it easy, seeing a few sights, and enjoying the wonders of nature.
