Moving Back Home

May 27, 2014

Missouri City, Texas

Nell has been making wonderful progress.  On her last visit to the surgeon a couple of weeks ago, he told her to begin doing whatever she felt able to do, with the exception of driving.  Last week, she navigated up and down a few stair steps. Then, on Sunday, we went by the motorhome and she stepped up and inside, then made her way through while we picked up a few things. She sat down at the dinette, looked around and said, “I’m ready to come home.” So… after her assurances that she feels ready, we will move the Bounder back to Advanced RV Park in Pearland this coming Thursday. They were kind enough to find us a space on short notice. I’ll get it moved and hooked up, and then we will head to Austin to spend a few days with our youngest daughter and her family before coming back and settling into the RV. Our Missouri City kids have been wonderful to provide us with a comfortable place to stay and we love them dearly for it. But it’s time to get back into our own place.

Once we get moved back to the motorhome, we’ll rent a small storage space for the bed we bought and a couple of other things.  We’ll start looking for a few furnishings and store them there as well.  Then over the next few months, we’ll look at potential apartments and decide where we think we should settle.  We don’t anticipate doing any motorhome travel during this time, but one never knows.  The top priority is to get Nell back to walking comfortably on both feet without any aid.  On that note, last night as we were getting ready for bed, she looked around for the walker.  Apparently, she had managed to shuffle through the house on her own without even thinking about it.  So progress is being made.

The folks at the RV park have said they have a temporary spot for us, and then, because they know we enjoyed watching the wildlife at the pond, they will move us back to our old spot by the water as soon as it comes available.

Good to see Nell is doing well Ralph, I hope you find a nice appartment.

Thanks, Doug (Yorky). We’re going to take our time with the apartment search. For now I think we just want to settle into our own familiar space while Nell continues to improve.

I wish Nell a speedy recovery. You both give true meaning to the phrase “in sickness and in health.” You are both wonderful. Ralph, thanks for giving us the pleasure of your art even when you were stuck in hospital waiting rooms. That’s the spirit!

Kathryn, thanks for the kind comments. We’re just two folks making our way through life, and enjoying what we do. Stay tuned. We’ve been talking about trying something new and different with the artwork.

Glad to hear Nell is on the mend. Take your time finding the “right” combination of apartment and rig. Hope your new situation works out well for you.

Thanks PG. We’ve decided to try to take things slowly. Besides, the longer we sit still in the MH, the more money we save. But boy, you’re not sitting still I see. Arches and Zion were on our itinerary for this summer, but looks like we’ll have to do it another time. Safe travels!
