Update on Nell

March 26, 2013

Rockport, Texas

Just an update….  Nell’s surgery last Friday went well.  We left the RV park around 9am and made the half-hour drive to Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi.  They got a late start, and we had a late return home, but it was done as outpatient surgery.  The surgeon said everything went as planned, with no complications.  Once Nell started waking up from the anesthesia, the got her sitting up, then moved her into a chair.  The physical therapist got her up and walked her around the ward and up and down a little set of stairs.  She was released, and we made the drive home from Corpus Christi to Rockport, arriving at the RV park right about 8pm.  Our sweet neighbor came out as we were getting out of the Jeep, a little concerned because we had been gone so long.

The next day, Saturday, we took two walks, longer than Nell had been able to do in the past two-plus months.  The pain seems to be gone, and now she is just dealing with the pain of the small incision and surgical procedure itself.  In fact, we joined the rest of the park residents at the clubhouse on Saturday evening for dinner.

As luck would have it, we were both apparently hit with a stomach bug on Sunday, and spent a very non-surgery-related uncomfortable day.  I’ve recovered, but with her system already running at a low level, it’s taking Nell a little longer to bounce back from it.

But her movement improves continuously, and, once past the stomach thing, she should be on the mend.

We are extremely grateful for all the thoughts and prayers from our friends around the world.  Thank you!
