The Summer Tour (more planning)

The Rig, Washington, Pennsylvania ~ July 2012

Rockport, Texas

I’ve worked a bit more on the 2013 Summer Tour, and have found a lot of nice-looking state parks and RV parks in our travel area.  The official tour will start from the Columbus/Mount Vernon, Ohio area.  We’ll head east across New York, then southeast to Boston.  From there we’ll spend several weeks travelling up through Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.  We’ll cross into Canada at Quebec City, then head west through Montreal and Toronto, re-entering the U.S. into Michigan.  We’ll go to the northernmost tip of Michigan, then come back down along the coast of Lake Michigan, and into Illinois to Chicago and a couple of days visiting a nephew and his family.  Returning to Ohio will complete the circuit.

I signed up with the site www.rvtripwizard.com, and I love it.  It works off Google maps, and has a lot of preference options.

We hope to be in Mount Vernon/Columbus, Ohio area around mid-May to celebrate Nell’s mom’s 90th birthday.  We’ve got kids and grandkids living in that area now as well, and we’re anxious to see them.  We’ll strike out from the Columbus area the first week of June, and head east.  After making the whole circuit, we plan to return to Ohio from Chicago in early September for a last visit with the kids and Nell’s family before continuing back south.

For now, we’re staying flexible for the rest of September,  and October and November, except to visit with our Texas kids in Austin and Houston before Christmas.  We’ve got a space reserved back here at Coastal Oaks in Rockport, Texas for next winter.  Having that done removes a concern about where we’ll spend the winter.  All we have to do is get back here in December.

I do like Reserve America’s online reservation system for state and national parks.  We won’t reserve much in advance for the summer, but we have reserved spaces at a couple of Corps of Engineers parks on the way to Ohio in May.

Tomorrow we have an appointment to get Texas state inspections and oil changes on the motorhome and the Jeep.  Then it’s a case of just doing a few minor things to the vehicles during April while Nell recuperates from this Friday’s surgery.

Sounds like a most excellent tour through the loop you propose. I’ve heard the scenery and weather on that route couldn’t be better for the summer. Take your time and enjoy every minute of it.

This sounds like a wonderful trip! Itching to go camping but we need to fix our trailer’s roof. It looks like the ac unit was leaking without our knowledge. We are planning a trip from NJ to Washington State next year. I will have to check out rvtripwizard. Sounds interesting.
