Plein Air again… finally

March 1, 2012

The good news is that the management here at Woodland Lakes RV Park is going to provide me with additional wifi coupons so I can continue to blog and research online without paying the extra fee.

And the other good news is that I finally actually painted outdoors today.

Floating Reeds, 6x6, Gouache

The nice thing about this place is that there’s plenty of painting material right nearby.  This bit of flotsam, reeds floating together, is near the shoreline just a few steps from our RV site.  I carried a folding chair and my french easel across the street, got set up and went to work.

Little Trees on the Bank, 5x7, Gouache

This little clump of trees is just a short walk along the shoreline from our site.

Late in the day, I set up right outside the door.  Since we got here, I’ve been captivated by the trees across the lake, tall, thin, gray-white poles with white branches creating a spider web against a gray-green background of taller pines.  I’ve marked off my last 9×12 board for this one.  My intent is to work on this one over several sittings rather than doing a typical fast piece.

The premise here is that if you don’t have a great painting view outside your door… move your door to another place.

Is that cool, or what?

Nice work Ralph. There’s nothing quite like painting on location en plain air. Quick studies or longer explorations are both good. Glad to see you getting into the groove.
